Last updated on Wednesday, April 6, 2016

(EVANSVILLE) - Evansville police say a man is in jail after he tried to rob a pizza delivery driver.

It happened shortly after midnight Tuesday morning outside an apartment in the 1200 block of South East Second Street.

Police say the driver arrived to deliver a pizza, but no one answered the door. He went back to his car and called the customer, later identified as 31-year-old Joseph Dodd, who then came outside and demanded the driver's money.

According to police, that's when the driver punched the would-be robber, got back in his car and drove away.

The driver called 911 and officers made their way into Dodd's apartment and arrested him.
