(FLOYD CO.) - Tuesday just before 1 p.m. Indiana State Trooper Nathan Abbott stopped a white Toyota Camry traveling east on I-64 just before the Sherman Minton Bridge in New Albany.
As Trooper Abbott began investigating, he found out there was a problem with the woman's driver's license. He placed the driver in handcuffs and was preparing to put her in the front seat of his vehicle when she put one leg over the guard rail and started fleeing from Trooper Abbott.
While fleeing, she stumbled down the wooded/grassy area just south of the interstate, rolling over a concrete retaining wall for I-64 falling about 17 feet onto the pavement of Lafayette Street below.
Emergency services was called and transported the woman to the University Hospital in Louisville with life threatening injuries.
During a search of the vehicle, police found heroin and syringes.
The name of the woman is not being released at this time due to the pending and continuing investigation.
