Posey County Spanish Teacher Arrested After Slapping Student

Last updated on Tuesday, April 26, 2016

(MT. CARMEL) - Battery charges have been filed against a Posey County teacher.

Donald Kensell of Mt. Carmel, working as a teacher at North Posey High School, was arrested Friday for allegedly slapping a 15-year-old student with his hand while teaching a class last month.

Several other students told police they saw Kensell slap the student, but they're not sure what led up to it, and the student's mother reportedly said the teenager was left with a red mark.

Kensell is set to appear in court in May and has bonded out of jail. He's been a teacher at the school teaching Spanish since 2012.

He's asked to be placed on administrative leave for the remainder of the school year and is looking to retire afterward, which the school board has approved.
