Last updated on Tuesday, April 19, 2016

(ELKHART CO.) - The Indiana State police are investigating a crash that happened late Sunday night between a state police car and a horse and buggy.

The accident happened in Elkhart County on SR 13 at the intersection of CR 20 at 10:42 p.m.

At the time of the crash state police corporal Peter Bradley was driving his marked police car north bound on SR 13 approaching the intersection of CR 20 when a horse and buggy pulled into his path.

Troopers investigating the crash determined that the driver of the buggy, 20-year-old Bryan Dean Troyer, of Middlebury, failed to yield to Bradley's car when he attempted to continue west across SR 13. Investigators also discovered that the buggy did not have any functioning lights.

This rural intersection is controlled with a stop sign for vehicles on CR 20. The horse ran from the scene after the crash and was later found at Troyer's home.

Bradley, 39, a 13 veteran of the Indiana State Police, was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital and treated for injuries to his left arm. Troyer was also treated at IU Health Goshen Hospital for injuries to his foot, hip and back.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in this accident.
