Indiana State Police Step-Up Search Efforts To Locate Missing Man

Last updated on Wednesday, April 6, 2016

(JOHNSON CO.) - The sister of a missing man is pleading for answers after Indiana State Police announced more search efforts to find him.

FOX59 reports that 47-year-old David A. Kallenberger of Lafayette was reported missing to the Indiana State Police on March 28, 2016. He was last seen on March 15 after his motorcycle broke down on I-65 South near the 86 mile marker in Johnson County.

Kallenberger's sister, Kimberly Hanson, said she talked to her brother on the 15th, when he was planning on driving down to visit her in Florida. She said he left her a strange voice mail and it was the last time she heard from him.

"He said there was a truck backing up. He said, 'Oh, my God. Kim I'll have to call you back' and that's the last time I heard from him," Hanson said.

State Police said they responded to the area for a distressed motorist on the 15th. They met up with Kallenberger, who told them he had help coming. The next day, state police reported seeing the man's motorcycle on the side of the road, but Kallenberger was no where to be found. His motorcycle was towed to a secure location.

Hanson said after more than a week of not hearing from her brother, she filed a missing persons report. Hanson said he would not leave his expensive motorcycle and personal belongings on the side of the road. She's fearful something happened to him.

"It seems very off to me. It's very uncharacteristic of him," Hanson said. "That something bad's happened to him. That someone took him, hurt him, he possibly got hit. He could be in a ditch somewhere. I don't know."

Nearly one month after his disappearance, ISP troopers said they've received a few tips from people claiming they saw him walking in the area of I-65, but he has still not been located. State Police said on Tuesday they are working to get cadaver dogs and helicopters in the area to continue their search. They would not say if his disappearance is being treated as suspicious.
