(CHESTERTON) - An international bird guide will speak about his misadventures during an Indiana Dunes Birding Festival dinner program on May 7.

The program runs from 6 to 10 p.m. CDT in Trinity Hall at St. Patrick's Parish in Chesterton. It includes a social hour, cash bar and silent auction to benefit local conservation efforts.

The dinner program is part of the Indiana Dunes Birding Festival, May 5-8, which highlights birding opportunities in northwest Indiana.

Iain Campbell of Tropical Birding Tours will deliver the keynote address, "The Misadventures in Bird Guiding." Campbell will share experiences that include dealing with airline strikes, camel safaris gone rogue, defusing potentially disruptive situations on the Pakistan-India border and accidentally invading Peru.

"This stuff is way too outrageous to have been made up," said Brad Bumgardner, interpretive naturalist at Indiana Dunes State Park.

Tickets for the dinner program cost $25 per person. They can be purchased at indunesbirdingfestival.com or by calling the Dunes State Park Nature Center (219) 926-1390.

Participants can also register for the entire festival, which will have something for every skill level.

The dinner program's silent auction will benefit the Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehab Center and the new Westchester Bird Sanctuary.

The festival is organized by the Indiana Audubon Society and includes both the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park as site hosts. Registration is available at indunesbirdingfestival.com or by calling (219) 926-1390.
