(UNDATED) - Free one-day workshops that will teach families how to fish will be offered by the DNR Go FishIN program again this year.
The workshops will run on the state's four Free Fishing Days, the first of which is this Saturday, April 16.
On these special days, Indiana residents who are age 18 and older can fish public waters without needing a fishing license or a trout stamp. Free Fishing Days are great opportunities to teach families how to fish because adults don't need a license on those days, and individuals younger than age 18 never need a license.
The theme of these workshops is "keeping fishing simple." Families will learn important fishing rules and how to tie a fishing knot, bait a hook, cast safely, and handle a fish. Having basic knowledge and skills will give families confidence to fish as a family on their own.
"Families that fish together create memories together," said DNR Go FishIN coordinator Clint Kowalik.
Angola, Corydon, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Seymour will host the first six of these workshops.
