Last updated on Monday, April 4, 2016

(EVANSVILLE) - An apartment fire in Evansville is being investigated as arson, according to police reports.

Firefighters were called to the Vann Park apartment complex on Pollack Avenue around 7 p.m. Friday. Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames shooting out of the two-story building as far as Weinbach and Pollack.

The fire chief says the fire spread rapidly. The second floor was damaged the most.

It was reported that the potential suspect's ex-girlfriend notified police she received text messages from the suspect that indicated he started the fire.

We're told the potential suspect has threatened the victim in the past and is barred from the apartment complex.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the fire.

The Red Cross is helping three people displaced by the fire.
