10-Month-Old Girl Dies After Found Unconscious In Car Seat At Day Care

Last updated on Friday, April 8, 2016

(SPEEDWAY) - A 10-month-old baby girl died after being rushed to the hospital from her day care in Speedway.

Speedway police and fire received a 911 call in regards to an unconscious baby on Wednesday around 2 p.m. at Miracles and Blessings Daycare in the 4400 block of West 10th Street.

When police and fire arrived on scene, a day care employee was performing CPR on the baby. Police and fire personnel took over and transported the baby to Riley Hospital.

"We were just holding on to what hope we could for her and unfortunately this is where we are at today," said Lt. Trent Theobald of Speedway Police.

Speedway police investigators spoke with a day care employee, and the employee told them the baby girl was found unconscious in her car seat in the day care.

Speedway police observed 36 children and one day care worker present at the time of the incident.

Indiana DCS responded to the day care and the hospital to investigate.

"We are not in a position to tell them to close their doors, that is something that DCS does when they get involved. They are the agency that can make those things happen," said Lt. Theobald.

Riley Hospital told Speedway police Thursday morning that the child had died. The Marion County Coroner's office is performing an autopsy, and the case is still under investigation. Officers are working to determine how long the baby was unresponsive before help arrived. The daycare center was open on Thursday while the investigation remains ongoing.
