(INDIANAPOLIS) -- In honor of National Reading Awareness Month, starting March 10, 2016, the Department of Child Services (DCS) and the Indianapolis Colts (Colts), will launch a 10-day Twitter campaign, the #100in10 Backpack Challenge.

Donations will go toward the purchase of backpacks for Books for Youth (BFY), a DCS and Colts program that provides backpacks filled with 25 age-appropriate books for foster youth.

The goal is to raise enough funds in ten days to purchase 100 backpacks. The #100in10 Backpack Challenge is made possible through BidPal, the leader in mobile bidding and fundraising technology for nonprofits that has donated a year's subscription to the BFY program. Participants of the #100in10 Backpack Challenge are encouraged to Text BOOKS to 243725 to make a donation.

Go to the DCS Twitter handle, @IndianaDCS, for more information and to support the #100in10 Backpack Challenge.

BFY is supported by title sponsor Cargo Services, Inc. an Indianapolis owned and operated global freight-forwarding company.

About Books for Youth:

The BFY program was officially launched in 2006 by DCS in a partnership with the Indianapolis Colts. The goal was, and continues to be, placing a backpack filled with 25 age-appropriate books in the hands of every Indiana foster child. The Statewide initiative was created after Steve Pemberton, a former foster child, shared his story of personal triumph over situational tragedy crediting a gift from a stranger - a box of books - as his motivation to overcome challenges and provide hope for his future. To date, BFY has distributed more than 8,750 backpacks to Indiana foster children. In 2007, Cargo Services, Inc. became a sponsor of BFY and has hosted special book distribution events for foster youth throughout Indiana.
