(EVANSVILLE) - A southwestern Indiana man serving a 70-year prison sentence for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in front of their teenage son has been sentenced on federal weapons charges.

A federal judge in Evansville sentenced Jason S. Perry to two 30-year sentences Monday on two counts he'd pleaded guilty to in December.

Those charges allege Perry unlawfully possessed a 12-gauge shotgun when he shot Jesica Tice because he had prior felony convictions, including for battery.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports Perry will serve his new sentences concurrently with the 70-year sentence he received after pleading guilty to Tice's murder.

Tice was slain in May 2013 as she and relatives were leaving a Princeton restaurant where they had celebrated her son's eighth-grade graduation in the city about 25 miles north of Evansville.
