Waiver Request Denied For School Day Missed Due To Threats

Last updated on Thursday, February 11, 2016

(PLAINFIELD) - The Indiana Department of Education has denied a waiver request from Plainfield schools for a day missed in December because of online threats.

Plainfield Community School Corporation communications director Sabrina Kapp confirmed Tuesday that the waiver to let the district not have to make up school missed on Dec. 17 was denied.

The Indianapolis Star reports Facebook threats targeting Plainfield High School surfaced the night of Dec. 16. A new Facebook account threatened violence against students last month. Police have had a stronger presence in the area.

Plainfield was set to have a four-day, mid-winter break this weekend. Students will instead be in school Friday, but will still have Monday off.

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz said Tuesday that the decision to deny the waiver wasn't made lightly.
