(NEW WHITELAND) - A 2-year-old girl died after a house fire in New Whiteland Tuesday.

The fire broke out at a home in the 700 block of Hickory Pine Drive Tuesday afternoon. Crews were dispatched around 12:40 p.m.

The fire did significant damage to the upper level of the home.

That second floor is apparently where 2-year-old Manserat Kaur had gotten trapped when the fire started.

Fire crews wrapped up their investigation Tuesday night without any information of a possible cause.

New Whiteland fire chief Derek Wilson said a language barrier prevented them from getting information from the family about what may have caused the fire. Investigators are working to get more translators to help the family explain what may have happened.

Fire crews were called to the scene by a mother who told dispatchers the house was fully engulfed making it impossible for her reach her daughter on the second floor.

As soon as fire crews arrived they rescued the little girl and rushed her to the hospital. Unfortunately, before she could be pulled out of the home, the victim suffered very serious burns and did pass away.

Her mother was also found suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to the same hospital as her daughter.

As for what sparked the fire, right now crews do not have an answer.
