Trooper Spots Stolen Vehicle, Arrests Fleeing Suspect

(VIGO CO.) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Vermillion County Sheriff’s reported a vehicle had been stolen from Casey’s General Store on North Ninth Street in Clinton.

The owner of he vehicle was a resident of Fairview and reported the vehicle stolen at 4:30 p.m.

About seven minutes later, Indiana State Trooper Ted Robertson spotted the stolen 2008 Mercury southbound on State Road 63 near Hutchinson Road in northern Vigo County.

Trooper Robertson attempted to stop the driver near State Road 63 and Durkees Ferry Road, but the driver fled westbound on Durkees Ferry to Sherburne Place and then south to Haymaker Avenue.

The driver then continued west on Haymaker Avenue to north on Funkhouser Place, where he was apprehended without incident just south of U.S. 150, approximately four miles later.

Police arrested 30-year-old Shane Michael Jenkins of Rosedale on charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief, driving while his driver's license was suspended and reckless driving. He is being held in the Vigo County Jail.
