Peru Woman Arrested For Neglect of A Dependent For Not Sending Child To School

Last updated on Thursday, February 4, 2016

(PERU) - Indiana State Police arrested 36-year-old Jennifer Rowe, 36, Peru. Detective Maller served Rowe with a Miami Superior Court II arrest warrant alleging a felony charge for neglect of a dependent - education.

Rowe is accused of not ensuring her 15 year-old daughter was attending school as required by Indiana law.

An ISP investigation from August 4, 2015 until November 6, 2015, the girl allegedly missed a total of 44 days of school at Peru High School. Police say there was no valid reason for the girl to miss school and Rowe allegedly did not take any reasonable steps to get her daughter to attend school.

"The school and the Indiana Department of Child Services set up an agreement with Rowe for her daughter to maintain a certain percentage of attendance at school, "stated ISP Detective Josh Maller, who investigated the crime. "The agreement was not honored by Rowe resulting in the criminal investigation."

Rowe was charged with neglect of a dependent - education, a Level 6 felony.
