Pedestrians Help Jasper Police Arrest Man At Bohnert Park

(JASPER) - Pedestrians at a Jasper park stepped in Sunday to assist an officer as he attempted to arrest a man for allegedly inhaling toxic vapors.

According to the Jasper Police Department report, an officer was called to Bohnert Park on South Meridian Road at 4 p.m. after a report of a male inhaling compressed air in the shelter house.

When the officer arrived they found 20-year-old Carlos Hernandez allegedly inhaling duster inside the shelter house.

When the officer attempted to arrest Hernandez he attempted to flee.

The officer was able to take Hernandez to the ground, but he continued to fight with the officer.

Three pedestrians in the park were able to assist the officer and restrain Hernandez.

Hernandez was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance after he suffered scrapes to his face and elbows during the struggle and to be medically cleared after inhaling the substance..

After being cleared by hospital staff, Hernandez was arrested and taken to the Dubois County Security Center at 6:36 p.m. on misdemeanor charges of of inhaling toxic vapors and resisting arrest.
