Opening Of Vincennes University $13M Student Union Delayed

Last updated on Friday, February 5, 2016

(VINCENNES) - Vincennes University officials say the opening of the campus’ new $13 million student union has been delayed until this fall because the scope of the project has grown.

When the construction plans were announced in the summer of 2014, officials estimated it would take 13 to 15 months to complete.

But the school's vice president of government relations, Phil Rath, says construction is taking longer to give students the best amenities as the centralized, modern space comes together.

Rath tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial the student union will offer students a 250,000-square-foot, mall-like space where they can visit, relax, study, eat and play in the heart of the southwestern Indiana campus.

The project includes a new food court with soundproof glass between it and the university's bowling alley.
