(LAKE CO.) - A 46-year-old woman was stopped on I-65 south bound north of 109th Street exit, by a black unmarked Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Sunday, for speeding and thought it may have been a possible police impersonator.
The mystery was solved when the Indiana State Police learned that it was an officer with a local police agency who had made a traffic stop on the woman.
The officer was in full dark battle dress uniform (BDU) with identifying police agency patches, badge and full gun belt. The officer was driving an unmarked police Ford Explorer but had emergency lights on the visors, grill, and wig wags operational at the time of the stop.
The officer did not give the woman a ticket but did speak to her about her unacceptable speed.
If anyone believes they may have been stopped by someone they believe may not be a police officer ask them for their identification, call 911 and give your location, roll your window down enough so you can communicate (one-two inches) and stop in a well-lighted and populated area.
