(SULLIVAN CO.) - An inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has been charged after a stabbing incident in January.
Court documents state 25-year-old Michael Worden has been charged with attempted murder and battery by means of a deadly weapon after an incident on January 28.
The altercation happened at 7:38 p.m. on January 28 in the North Gym of the facility. The incident report stated several offenders were involved in the altercation and it wasn't until all offenders were restrained and returned to their housing units that it was discovered two inmates had been stabbed.
One inmate was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for stab wounds to the face and head area. During an interview with Worden, he admitted that he had stabbed another offender and it was because he thought that offender was a 'snitch.'
Worden told officials that he stabbed Russell four to five times and that his weapon was described as a 'silver poker.' "Worden also admitted, without hesitation, that it was his intent to kill Russell," court documents say. "Worden stated he disposed of the weapon in a trash container and it could not be recovered."
Worden is incarcerated at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for arson, possession of a deadly weapon and battery by bodily waste.
Officials report the area the altercation happened at on January 28 was put on lockdown and that was not lifted until February 17.
