(EVANSVILLE) - Evansville Police is asking the public’s help on identifying a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened early Saturday morning.

Officers heard gunshots while patrolling near North Main Street around 3 a.m.

The officers responded to a nearby bar and found the victim, 38-year-old Maurice Heyward, near the front door.

The bar's surveillance video shows an unknown black male shooting Heyword.

The video also shows a licensed gun owner, who witnessed the shooting, firing multiple rounds at the suspect. Police say because his actions were lawful, he is not facing charges.

The suspect ran to a blue Chevy SUV and took off. Police don't know if he was hurt in the shooting.

According to the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office, Heyward died at a local hospital about one hour after the shooting.
