Double Murder Suspect Shoots Shelf After Barricading Himself In Indy Hotel Room

Last updated on Wednesday, February 17, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Double homicide suspect Lucius Oliver Hamilton III fatally shot himself inside a downtown Indianapolis hotel Wednesday afternoon after federal, state and local authorities tracked him down there, NBC affiliate WTHR is reporting.

Hamilton had barricaded himself inside the Hilton Garden Inn after authorities tracked him there, Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen said.

Earlier in the day, Wabash College, a small, private college for men in Montgomery County, IN was on lock down and classes were canceled for the rest of the day while police searched the campus for Hamilton, who worked there and was last seen there Wednesday morning. It is not yet clear what position Hamilton held at Wabash College.

At 3 p.m., the campus was given the all-clear after SWAT teams with K-9s went from building to building and found no sign of the suspect.

Hamilton was wanted in connection to the murders of his niece, 31-year-old Katherine Janet Giehl and her 4-year-old son. Their bodies were found inside a home in Zionsville in Boone County, IN shortly before 9 a.m.

The motive for the shootings is not yet known.
