J(EFFERSONVILLE) - Congressman Todd Young, R-Indiana, is encouraging high school students from across the county to showcase their artistic abilities in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition.

The CAC was established in 1982 so that members of Congress could recognize and encourage the artistic talents of their young constituents. One winning entry will be selected to represent the 9th Congressional District of Indiana in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., for one yea. In addition, this first-place entrant will receive a pair of roundtrip airline tickets to Washington, for a reception in June honoring all CAC winners.

Entries will be scored by a panel of professional artists from the district. Judges will score artwork in photography and non-photography categories. The artwork with the highest combined judges' score will be the 2016 winner and the runner-up will have her or his artwork displayed in the Jeffersonville District office for one year.

Also, a social media runner-up will be selected through votes on Young's Facebook page at

The artist whose work receives the most "Likes" on Facebook will receive a special recognition from the congressman.
