Ball State Student Arrested After Police Find Suspicious Package

Last updated on Friday, February 19, 2016

(MUNCIE) - Ball State police say the package is no longer a threat and the campus is resuming activities.

A suspicious package was found in the parking lot of the student services center at Ball State University.

The investigation led police to arrest 21-year-old Ball State student Jackson Hiatt on preliminary charges of intimidation.

Ball State police say the student center was evacuated after the package was found around 2 p.m.

"The building was evacuated in a safe and timely fashion, and our partner agencies were immediately on scene to assist with the situation," said Ball State Chief James Duckham. "Our thanks to our students, faculty and staff who calmly evacuated the student center, and to the additional officers who came to assist us."
