(INDIANAPOLIS) - A replica of Indiana’s official state gun commemorating the state’s bicentennial is set to make its debut.
The Indianapolis Star reports the replica of the Grouseland Rifle will be unveiled Saturday in Noblesville. The original gun was made before Indiana became a state by a contemporary of William Henry Harrison, who was then Indiana's territorial governor and went on to become the nation's ninth president.
Indiana lawmakers designated the original gun the state's official rifle in 2012 and named it the Grouseland, sharing its name with the home where Harrison lived in Vincennes while territorial governor. The original is on display at the site operated by the Grouseland Foundation.
The law prohibits duplicating the gun unless authorized by the foundation, which recently commissioned a gunsmith for the bicentennial reproduction.
