U.S. Postal Service To Issue Forever Stamp Honoring 200th Anniversary Of Indiana's Statehood

Last updated on Tuesday, January 5, 2016

(EVANSVILLE) - The U.S. Postal Service will issue a forever stamp honoring then 200th anniversary of Indiana’s statehood.

The image on the stamp showing a brilliant sunset over a northern Indiana cornfield comes from a photograph by 25-year-old Milford native Michael Matti.

He tells the Evansville Courier & Press he took the picture on a dirt road just off State Road 15 in Kosciusko County. Matti says the image was selected because a member of the Postal Service's Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee noticed some of his work featuring Indiana scenes and asked for more samples.

Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders says it selects only about 20 stamp ideas each year from about 40,000 suggestions.

The agency hasn't said yet when it will release the stamp.
