Traffic Stop Lands Intoxicated Driver In Jail

(HUNTINGBURG) - A Friday evening traffic stop resulted in a Huntingburg man in jail on multiple felony charges.

At 6 p.m. Friday, Trooper Ross Johnson pulled over a 2004 Honda CR-V for speeding on US 231 at 10th Street in Huntingburg. During the course of the traffic stop, Trooper Johnson spoke with the driver, 61 year old Stephen A. Pund, of Huntingburg, and his 12 year old son, and could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Further investigation by Johnson found that Pund had operated his vehicle while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content of 0.099 percent, which is over the limit of 0.08 percent. Additionally, Johnson found that Pund had been operating his vehicle while intoxicated.

Pund was lodged without incident in the Dubois County Security Center. By having a minor dependent in the vehicle with him, the operating while intoxicated charge was enhanced to a Level 6 Felony. Additionally, Pund was charged with neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 Felony.
