Last updated on Thursday, January 21, 2016

(JOHNSON CO.) - A Greenwood man died after being pulled from a pond in Johnson County Tuesday night.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says, 43-year-old Brian Persinger was visiting his new home, which was still under construction, on County Road 350N, located northeast of the town of Franklin.

Persinger's wife went to the home after being unable to reach him. She found his vehicle, but could not locate him.

Police found footprints on some ice in a pond behind the home. The Johnson County Dive Team was able to locate Persinger's body the pond.

Sheriff Cox says that he believes Persinger may have trekked onto to the ice to chase his dogs and fell through. Cox says the dogs have not been located, although conditions limited a search.

An official cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
