(INDIANAPOLIS) - Relatives of a sheriff’s deputy shot to death during a 1972 bank robbery said they’re relieved that the Indiana Parole Board has once again denied parole for his convicted killer.
The parole board voted 5-0 Tuesday against granting parole for 69-year-old Billy Ray Adams after hearing from him via a video feed from a state prison where he's serving a life sentence.
Adams was convicted in the fatal shooting of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Settles.
Board member Charles Miller said the panel has now rejected parole six times for Adams, who can seek parole every five years.
Settles' younger sister, Linda Duncan, said she's pleased the board rejected Adam's latest bid for freedom. But she said it's upsetting to have to relive her brothers' killing every five years.
