Evansville IceMen Moving To Owensboro, K.Y.

Last updated on Friday, January 22, 2016

(OWENSBORO, KY) - Owensboro officially has a professional ice hockey team.

The Evansville IceMen announced on Facebook that the team signed a contract with the city of Owensboro at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. They will buy the Owensboro Sportscenter for $1 and invest millions renovating it.

The Kentucky Mavericks basketball team, Kentucky Weslyan basketball team, and Owensboro High School basketball team play at the Sportscenter. Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne says those deals will be honored for the next five years.

We're told the IceMen will manage the venue and other events could take place at the Sportscenter.

The team will remain in Evansville for the remainder of the current season. They will be in Owensboro for the start of the 2016-17 season.
