Driver Arrested For DUI After 3 Emergency Workers Hit By Car

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two Indianapolis firefighters were hit as they worked to clear up a wreck near Southport Wednesday evening.

They were both taken to the hospital, but both men were expected to be okay.

The wreck happened at 6900 Gray Rd., at about 6:30. While the firefighters were talking to the victims and making sure they were okay, a third car slammed into the accident scene, knocking firefighter Brian Hendrick, a 15-year veteran, about 10 ft. in the air. He had minor inuuries and was taken to the hospital for observation.

Rookie Cory VanWyk was also hit as he talked to one of the drivers.

Arrested on the scene was Kaitlyn Michelle Carlson, who was driving the third vehicle, a 2001 Ford Explorer. She was charged with DUI.
