Columbus Police Investigating 12 Incidents Of Counterfeit Money

(COLUMBUS) - Detectives from the Columbus Police Department are currently investigating 12 incidents where counterfeit money has been passed in Columbus during the month of January.

The fraudulent currency, which has consisted primarily of ten, twenty, and one hundred dollar bills, has been passed and accepted at gas stations and fast food restaurants. Many of the fake bills have been of poor quality and lacked some of the security features that are on real currency.

Persons with questions on the legitimacy of currency can take the money to their local bank or to law enforcement who can advise on the authenticity of the bill.

Anyone with information about the counterfeit money being passed in Columbus is urged to contact Detective Bill Ziegler at 812-376-2627. Tips and information can be left anonymously.
