(WARSAW) - A northern Indiana school district canceled classes Thursday after a fire heavily damaged its transportation building.

Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent David Hoffert says the fire broke out about 5:45 a.m. Thursday. He says five buses were destroyed in the fire, including two full-size buses, a transit bus and two smaller buses used for special needs students. He says official believe a sixth bus inside was not damaged. He says the main loss is the building and the service equipment.

He says the school district, 40 miles west of Fort Wayne, has 72 buses overall, including six new buses that arrived Wednesday. He says classes are expected to resume Friday.

Hoffert says the cause of the fire is under investigation, but foul play does not appear to be involved.
