Yorktown Man Arrested After Driving 115 MPH In 55 MPH Zone

(MUNCIE) - A Yorktown man was arrested early Saturday morning after a Indiana State trooper clocked the vehicle he was driving at 115 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on Muncie’s west side.

Around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Trooper John Clawson observed an eastbound Ford Escape on State Road 332 in the area of County Road 500 West traveling at a high rate of speed.

Clawson clocked the SUV at 115 mph in the 55 zone, and got it stopped in the area of 332 and Nebo Rd.

The driver, 19-year-old Griffin Davis, of Yorktown, told the trooper that he and his three passengers were on their way to a local Steak N' Shake restaurant.

The trooper then determined Davis was intoxicated on alcohol and from smoking marijuana.

Davis was taken the Delaware County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 18 years of age, Level 6 Felony - one of his passengers was 16 years of age; operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, Class A misdemeanor and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, Class C misdemeanor. He was also issued a ticket for speeding.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.
