Last updated on Wednesday, December 2, 2015

(VANDERBURGH CO.) - A trial is underway for an Evansville woman accused of child neglect in the death of her two-month-old son.

Investigators say Beth Ann Montgomery was sleeping on the couch of her home in September 2014.

According to deputies, she awoke and found her son, Beau Bivins, with his face in between the couch cushions.

An autopsy revealed he died from an unsafe sleeping surface.

Prosecutors believe systemic neglect led to Beau's death last year.

The 911 call was played in court on Tuesday. First responders were scheduled to testify as well.

Montgomery is charged with child neglect resulting in the death of a dependent under the age of 14 and neglect of a dependent.
