(WINAMAC) - On Saturday, November 28, 2015 at approximately 9:08 a.m. Indiana Conservation Officers were dispatched to Winamac Fish and Wildlife Area where two pheasant hunters were shot by a person from another group of pheasant hunters approximately 50 yards away.
The victims, a father and his 13-year-old son, were both struck by birdshot (pellets) with one pellet penetrating the youth hunter's neck. The father reported he was struck in the back of the head but did not immediately show any visible injury.
The youth hunter was transported by his father to the Pulaski County Hospital and will require minor surgery to remove the pellet. Both victims were wearing hunter orange as required and all parties names are being withheld as the investigation is still ongoing at this time.
Indiana Conservation Officers urge all hunters to be aware of their safe zone of fire and what is beyond their intended target.
