(INDIANAPOLIS) - Statement from David Kane, Executive Director, Indiana Department of Homeland Security:

In light of the increasing likelihood that the attack in San Bernardino, California, was inspired by terrorism, it is heartbreakingly apparent that our world continues to change and the way we perceive threats must be taken more seriously.

With that in mind, Governor Pence is directing the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Indiana State Police, in cooperation with local and federal law enforcement agencies, to encourage citizens to exercise renewed awareness of our neighborhoods and communities.

While no specific threat information with regard to Indiana has been identified, Hoosiers are urged to access information through the state homeland security's new campaign and be "Ready: Whenever. Wherever." This campaign is aimed toward helping families through discussion and vigilance. It brings up difficult topics, but in today's environment, these types of acts may occur nearly anywhere, at any time. More information about the campaign can be found at

State homeland security and state police remind everyone that if they see something suspicious, say something by notifying local security, local law enforcement, or by calling the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center at 1-877-226-1026. Citizens in immediate danger should call 911, but taking the extra steps to make a plan will help each of us be "Ready: Whenever. Wherever."
