(CLAY CO.) - Two children were removed from a Clay County home and two people are behind bars after deputies serve a search warrant

WTHI reports, on Sunday, police arrived at a home belonging to 41-year-old William Mealey and 33-year-old Jessica Hollifield.

While searching the home, officers found several items involved in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.

While searching, deputies also found what they call several safety hazards.

Officers found bare wiring on the floor and walls, animal feces on the floors, standing water outside of a bathroom door, and cockroaches crawling on dishes, furniture, clothes, and walls.

Police say one of the two that were arrested admitted to smoking inside of a room in the home, only feet away from where the two small children were sleeping, just moments before deputies arrived.

The two small children were removed from the home by Indiana DCS.

Mealey and Hollifield are both facing charges of neglect a dependent, dealing synthetic drugs, possession of synthetic drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
