Cause Of Fatal Spencer Co. Fire Listed As Undetermined

Last updated on Tuesday, December 15, 2015

(SPENCER CO.) - Investigators have listed the cause of a deadly Spencer County fire as “undetermined.”

The fire happened in the early morning hours of October 30 in the 1000 block of North 900 West in Hatfield.

Officials say 43-year-old Paul David Leslie died of smoke inhalation. Paul's wife, Lauren, and their baby survived.

Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says, "Due to the extent of fire damage and collapse of the roof, investigators were unable to identify with certainty an ignition source or area of origin."

Although the exact cause is undetermined, investigators say the home did not have electricity or natural gas at the time of the fire and a generator with two extension cords powering electrical devices in the house was in use when the fire occurred.

Investigators do not suspect foul play.
