Newborn Baby Boy Abandoned At Church Up For Adoption

Last updated on Monday, November 9, 2015

(NORTH VERNON) - Police said that the newborn boy who was found outside a North Vernon church is currently staying with a foster family and is waiting to be adopted.

The North Vernon Police Department said it has exhausted all leads and tips to identify the child's mother.

Sgt. Andrew Richmond said the baby is still healthy after being treated for an undisclosed infection.

Police in North Vernon are still searching for the mother who abandoned the 12-hour-old baby near a church in September.

The baby was reportedly found at the church by the pastor's wife. She said she heard cries from behind a dumpster and discovered the baby.

He is described as Caucasian and was found clean and wrapped in coats with the umbilical cord still attached. Police say he is in normal health.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call North Vernon police at (812) 346-1466 or central dispatch at (812) 346-2345.
