Historic Gun Stolen From Indiana Found In Ohio

Last updated on Friday, November 13, 2015

(SOUTH MILFORD) - The World War I-era machine gun stolen from a northern Indiana town’s display case has been recovered after an Ohio man allegedly was caught attempting a similar theft in another community.

Police say a decommissioned 1895 machine gun taken from an outdoor case in South Milford last month was recovered Tuesday.

They say Jason T. Saam of Van Wert, Ohio, was arrested Nov. 1 in Decatur after police found him allegedly trying to pull out a Pegasus and an eagle sculpture mounted in front of the Adams County Courthouse.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department says Saam confessed to taking the machine gun two days earlier and that officers could find the gun in his home.

Saam only faces charges in Adams County. It's not clear whether he has an attorney.
