Zoeller, Other Attorney Generals Urge Senate To Pass Addiction Law

Last updated on Tuesday, October 6, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller and 37 other attorneys general are urging the Senate to pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015.

Zoeller says the act would provide states with the necessary tools to more effectively confront the growing challenge of heroin and opioid abuse and addiction. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drug overdoses now surpass automobile accidents as the leading cause of injury-related death for Americans between the ages 25 and 64.

Zoeller says the nationwide epidemic demands a comprehensive response.

The act would expand prevention and educational efforts, expand the availability of naloxone to help save lives of those who overdose and launch an evidence-based opioids and heroin treatment and intervention program to assist in treatment and recovery.
