North Split Reopens After 40,000 Pounds Mangoes Spill

Last updated on Wednesday, October 28, 2015

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The ramp from I-70 to I-65 in the north split reopened shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, nearly 7 hours after a semi carrying 40,000 pounds of mangoes overturned.

The ramp closed around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Boxes full of mangoes spilled onto the ramp, making already rain soaked roads even more slippery. Crews -- including back hoes, toe trucks, and workers carrying brooms -- are helping with the cleanup.

Traffic was able to move through the split by using the exit ramp for Michigan and Ohio Streets.

There are no reports of any injuries.

It's the second accident on the ramp within 24 hours, and the third accident overnight involving trucks on the Interstate.

Another crash happened on westbound I-70 near Shadeland Avenue.

And, a truck spilled diesel fuel in the southbound lanes of I-65 near the Martin Luther King, Jr exit.

No injuries were reported in those crashes.

Rain and wet roads are believed to have been contributing factors in the accidents.
