Father Stabs Daughter After Dispute Over Antifreeze

Last updated on Tuesday, October 27, 2015

(NEW CASTLE) - A 66-year-old Indiana man is accused of stabbing his adult daughter in an apparent dispute over antifreeze.

Robert Copley of New Castle is charged with battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness. He faces up to six years in prison on the battery charge.

Court documents show Copley went to his daughter's home in New Castle on October 17 and confronted her son about a dispute involving antifreeze. Investigators say the 44-year-old woman was stabbed with a kitchen knife Copley was holding after she stepped between her father and her son.

The Muncie Star Press reports that the woman was treated for her wound at a hospital.

Copley has maintained that the stabbing was accidental.

He's scheduled to appear in court November 12.
