18-Year-Old Killed In Crash

(AVON) - An 18-year-old man died in a car accident Saturday night.

The Avon Police Department responded to the accident on U.S. Hwy 36 near Shiloh Crossing Drive around 11:34 p.m. The car had collided with a traffic post. He was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital.

The driver was identified as John McGuire. McGuire is a 2015 graduate of Ben Davis High School and was currently enrolled at the University of Indianapolis where he was studying athletic training and physical therapy.

The University of Indianapolis released a statement Sunday night about McGuire's death.

The University of Indianapolis community is saddened by the loss of freshman student John McGuire, who died Saturday night in a car accident. John had just begun classes at UIndy this semester as a pre-athletic training major. Our university counselors and chaplains are prepared to provide support to the people impacted by his passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

A Gofundme account has been set up to help his family with the cost of his funeral.

Police have determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
