1.5 Million Bicycles Sold Since 1998 Recalled

Last updated on Thursday, October 1, 2015

(UNDATED) - A crash hazard has prompted the recall of more than 1.5 million bicycles with front disc brakes and quick release levers.

The recall involves 13 manufacturers and distributors and covers more than a dozen brands, including Diamondback, Cannondale and Jamis.

An open quick release lever on the bike's front wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake rotor, causing the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or separate from the bike, causing the rider to crash.

There have been three incidents reported, including one with injuries.

The bicycles were sold at bicycle stores nationwide from 1998 through this year. Consumers can get free installation of a new quick release lever.

About 1.3 million of the recalled bikes were sold in the United States. About 245,000 were sold in Canada and 9,000 in Mexico.
