Last updated on Monday, September 28, 2015

(FORT WAYNE) - A single engine, fixed wing airplane crashed early Saturday morning in the 1400 block of Ludwig Park Drive, just south of Smith Field, injuring one of two occupants.

Indiana State Police Sergeant Tom Merkling, who is assisting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the early part of the investigation says at approximately 3:45 a.m., the Cessna 150 was flying in a northerly direction on its approach to Smith Field.

As the airplane continued to descend, it clipped the upper portions of some large trees before it struck a power line and then a small corner section of the roof of a house.

The plane landed upside down in the backyard of 1414 Ludwig Park Drive.

Police say there were two occupants of the plane, one of which was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The second is currently unaccounted for, although police do believe they have that person's identity and are trying to find that person.

The residents of the house were not injured and have temporarily relocated.

The crash remains under investigation and no other information is available.

Assisting at the scene were the Fort Wayne Police Department, Fort Wayne Airport Authority Police, Fort Wayne Airport Authority Operations, Allen County Sheriff Department, Allen County Department of Homeland Security, Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA).
