(INDIANAPOLIS) - State schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz is asking the U.S. Department of Education for help determining what the funding levels should be for charter schools that have seen their enrollments of low-income students fall.
Ritz says a drop in the number of such students attending some Indiana charter schools could mean those schools may not be eligible for federal money specifically meant to help low-income students.
Her request for assistance comes as the federal government has reduced the amount of funding for schools with low-income students.
Ritz says that as soon as she gets word from the federal agency, she will take steps to make sure both charter schools and traditional schools get the appropriate amount of money.
