(INDIANAPOLIS) - Prosecutors say the blood-alcohol test results of an Indianapolis police officer who fatally struck a pedestrian with his cruiser won’t be released until after authorities complete their investigation of that deadly crash.
Police say an investigator smelled alcohol on Officer Bernardo Zavalza's breath after Thursday's late-night crash killed 53-year-old Ronny Bowling. The seven-year police veteran is on administrative leave.
The crash was reported minutes after a 911 caller reported that a man wearing dark clothing was walking in traffic.
Marion County prosecutor's office spokeswoman Peg McLeish said Tuesday that Zavalza's blood-alcohol test results and other crash details won't "be released at this time" because the police investigation is ongoing.
She says more information will be released after prosecutors determine whether Zavalza will face any charges.
