(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis International Airport is auctioning hundreds of acres of land as part of a larger airport plan to sell off more than 3,000 acres on the outskirts of its sprawling complex.
The 320 acres will be auctioned in 30 tracts on October 24 at the Palms Banquet and Conference Center in nearby Plainfield. That land located in Marion and adjacent Hendricks counties can be used for residential, industrial and commercial development purposes or as farmland.
Airport officials say the land will generate $1.8 million a year in property taxes. The airport complex currently encompasses about 9,000 acres.
The Indianapolis Star reports the parcels slated for auction next month are among about 3,200 acres worth some $83 million the airport plans to sell off.
