70-Year-Old Gary Man Dies After Being Struck By Train

(GARY) - A 70-year-old Gary man died after being struck by a train.

Gary police say Hassan Rafiq was walking along Broadway when he was struck by the train about 8:20 a.m. Central time.

Witnesses told officers the crossing gates were down when Rafiq walked across the tracks. He was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9 a.m.

The Lake County Coroner's Office ruled his death accidental, saying he died from blunt force trauma.
